Our Story

Victoria and Malcolm met in Delaware in 2019 after relocating for career opportunities. The Philadelphia and Washington D.C. natives’ first date turned into hours of exploring each other while throwing in playful debates, such as Philly versus D.C., Howard versus Upenn, Go-Go versus Meek Mill, and “steak and cheese” versus cheesesteaks (there’s a difference). Only a month later, the two became a couple. Life wasted no time throwing curveballs. With the pandemic, unexpected life-changing events, medical crisis, and working from home (living 24/7 together for going on 3 years and counting), life got tough quickly. But they learned how to adjust to change, together.

In April 2022, Malcolm took Victoria to the Black Wax Museum in Baltimore, a place she’d wanted to revisit for over a decade. After spending the afternoon immersed in culture, Malcolm took her to the Baltimore Harbor. While walking on the pier, Malcolm asked a passerby to take their “picture” (he actually secretly asked for a video). Victoria was busy posing for the picture when Malcolm looked at her and said: “Victoria, I really wanted to take you down here to the Black Wax Museum because I feel like you embody the characteristics of the women who built our history: determination, perseverance, intelligence, and a good heart. This is the reason that I love you. So with that…”, Malcolm got down on one knee, with the whole pier watching, and asked Victoria for her hand in marriage.

~Words from the Couple~

“One of the things I love about Victoria is that she genuinely has a good heart. Despite everything she's going through, regardless of how she's feeling, she always puts other people before herself. She’s smart, ambitious and goes after what she wants. She believes in me, sometimes more than I believe in myself. She sharpens me, and challenges me to build on skills that I didn't even know I had. I love just talking to her, because we give each other different perspectives on the topic that we’re talking about, from history, current events, to music and TV. She appreciates all the effort that I put in and respects the struggles that I went through to become the man I am today. She sees me, all of me, good and bad, and loves me for who I am.”
-Malcolm

“I feel like Malcolm was handpicked and sent to me at the most challenging time of my life. My life was completely turning upside down, newly diagnosed with MS while balancing a fast paced career. No matter how much I pushed people away, he never left, and refuse to let me go through this journey alone. The world gets to see me when I'm smiling and putting forth all the energy that I have. But at the end of the day, it's Malcolm who's right beside me when I come home completely drained and barely able to move from the pain. This man proves over and over again how much of a good heart he has, how dedicated he is to his family, his patience, empathy, and understanding, and his willingness to self-improve. He challenges me to see things from different perspectives. He protects me from myself when I'm pushing beyond my limits. He puts up with me being type A and tells me to chill when I’m spiraling. He genuinely cares about me. When I'm with Malcolm, I feel safe, I feel at home, I feel at peace. I feel like there's nothing that we can't get through together. “
-Victoria
